Clinical studies on 123 Cases of Acute Glomerulonephritis in Children

Abstract
Clinical observation has been madeon 123 childrens tivith acute gromerulonephritiso w110 was admitted to the pediatric Dpt. of 1{yung-Poole University hospital during 11 years p;iod from .August ¢¥66 to July ¢¥77.
1) Total case number was 123, comprising 2.8io of hospilal admission to pediatric department, during the same observation period. Peak incidence was noticed on cold months, from September to February. (77.4/x)
2) Boys were affected about twice of-terner than girls (1.8:1) with peak in 4-9 yrs of age group (59 ~). Affected rate below 3 year of age was very low (3 0).
3) URI was the most common preceding illness (69%), followed by skin infection, scarlet :fever, p;zrotitis, otitis media, etc.. In 22 0, ro previous illness could be clicitable.
4) Chief complaints at the time of admission were as follow, in debreasing order of frequency, facial edema 82.1x;, hematuria 61.8; and fever 33.30. And more than half (55?%;) of the cases were admitted within 10 days after the onset of tine illness.
5) Laboratory data at the time of admission;
Urinalysis; almost all of the cases sho~red proteinuria.&hematuria," and various casts were seen in 31.7 ~. I/levated ESR was seen in 72.4 o with mild anemia 26.9 ~, BUN over 15 mg?; 71;,, and normal cholesterol value in the majority of patients ASLO titer over 333 Todd unit was found in 51.6b of the cases. However, positive culture of tl:;e group A b-hemolytic streptococcus was seen in only 3 cases (2.4 ~)
6) Diastolic hypertension over 90 mmHg was seen in 54.5 0
7) Chest X-ray findings showed;
Increased vascular marking 37.5 0, pulmonary edema 3.6%, cardiomegaly 18.7%, pleural effusion ].1.6 0. In 28.6 ~, the findings was interpreted as norrnal.
8) Complication occurred in 12 cases (9.7~o), with hypertensive encephalopathy in 10 cases. and heart failure in 2 cases. No case of renal failure was seen.
9) Mlajority improved at the time of discharge (81.3`,¢¥ro) usually within 3 weeps. Only 2 cases continued to reveal abnormal urinalysis (eg. hematuria, etc.) over- 1 year in whom long term folio~-up were possible, and no case fatality was seen..
